India's champion stuff too hot for Australia
Gautam Gambhir's blazing knock of 63 helped India crush Australia by seven wickets in the one-off Twenty20 international at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. Gambhir smashed six boundaries and a six in his 52-ball knock as India coasted to the victory target of 167, with 11 balls to spare. India lost an early wicket in the form of Virender Sehwag for 5, but Gambhir and Robin Uthappa (35) entertained the crowd with delightful strokeplay. The youngsters put on a quick 82-run partnership to put India on course to victory. Yuvraj Singh finished unbeaten on 35, inclusive of three sixes, while captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit a huge six to score the winning runs. Earlier, Ricky Ponting smashed 76 off 53 deliveries to guide Australia to a healthy 166 for 5 in their 20 overs. Harbhajan Singh was instrumental in restricting the Australians in the middle over, as he took one wicket for 17 runs in his four. Murali Kartik, making his Twenty20 debut, also impressed giving away 27 runs in his four overs. India are the reigning Twenty20 World champions, having won the inaugural tournament in South Africa last month. This is the first every Twenty20 international on Indian soil.
Australia innings:
Adam Gilchrist started his innings with a lucky boundary off R P Singh's second delivery as his attempted slash on the off-side went between the slip and wicketkeeper. Thereafter he smashed two more boundaries on either side of the wicket. He, however, fell for 12 when he played all over a full delivery from Singh off the fifth ball of the match.
Ricky Ponting also got off the mark in rather streaky fashion when his edge went to the boundary through the vacant slips region. He then announced himself with two commanding boundaries in Singh's second over as Australia raced to 25 for 1 after three overs. Hayden hit two huge sixes in successive overs off Sreesanth and Singh as Australia posted 42 for 1 in five overs. Irfan Pathan replaced Sreesanth, but was immediately taken to the cleaners as Ponting smashed him for four boundaries in his opening over. But Harbhajan Singh brought India back into the game when he claimed the crucial wicket of Hayden in the seventh over. The left-hander tried to play through the covers but inside edged it onto his stumps and was dismissed for 17. Andrew Symonds once again made his way to the middle to a hostile reception from the Mumbai crowd. Symonds and Ponting consolidated in the middle overs against the spin duo of Kartik and Harbhajan as Australia reached 81 for 2 after 10 overs. Ponting reached his half-century in the 13th over off an edged boundary that just evaded a diving Mahendra Singh Dhoni. It took the Australian captain just 33 deliveries to reach the landmark and included nine boundaries. Symonds and Ponting added 60 runs for the third wicket before the former was run out for 20 in the 14th over after a misunderstanding with his captain. Brad Hodge's horror run in India ended in quite the same fashion when he was bowled for 2 by Pathan as Australia reached 116 for 4 after 15 overs. Harbhajan dished out another tidy performance, claiming 1 for 17 in his four overs. Kartik also impressed, giving away just 27 runs in his four. Sreesanth conceded 22 runs in his final overs as Ponting hit him for two boundaries to take Australia to 149 for 4 after 18 overs. Ponting's entertaining knock of 76 came to an end when he dragged one on to his stumps and was bowled for 76. He hit 13 boundaries in his 53-ball knock before falling in the 19th over. Michael Clarke provided the flourish in the final overs, hitting 25 from 25 deliveries, including two boundaries as Australia ended on 166 for five in their 20 overs. The Indian seamers once again struggled to keep a check on the scoring rate as was the case in the recently-concluded ODI series between the two teams. Pathan chipped in with vital wickets to return figures of 2 for 34 in his four overs. The pitch looks good for batting and India will hope their batsmen can deliver in their first outing as World champions.

Nothing seemed to be bother the two youngsters as they milked the bowling quite intelligently. India raced to 100 for 1 after just 10 overs. But, against the run of play, India lost the wicket of Uthappa to part-timer Michael Clarke in the 11th over. Uthappa tried to play it fine, but could only edge it behind to keeper Gilchrist for a fine knock of 35. His second wicket partnership of 82 in 52 deliveries with Gambhir had put India firmly on the path of victory. Gambhir, however, continued to bat solidly and reached his half-century off just 40 deliveries in the 13th over. In the next delivery, Yuvraj hit a flat six through mid-wicket to send the crowd into raptures and chants of "sixer, sixer" filled the stadium. Gambhir fell for a solid innings of 63, caught at midwicket, attempting a rash pull shot off Hilfenhaus. The left-hander hit six boundaries and a six in his 52-ball knock to lead India's run chase. It was his second match-winning knock in as many matches to follow up on the blazing 75 he made against Pakistan in the World Cup final. Yuvraj hit two consecutive sixes off Stuart Clark in the 17th over as India looked to finish off things quickly. Dhoni, who was greeted by chants of "Deepika", finished the match in style when he smashed Lee for a huge six over square leg. Yuvraj finished unbeaten on 31, inclusive of three sixes as India coasted to the victory target of 167, losing just three wickets, with 11 deliveries to spare.
India rose to the occasion very well and played like true champions. Barring for a few changes, it was the same team that was outplayed in the ODIs, but here they seemed unstoppable and had answers to everything Australia threw at them. The victory made it clear that the World Cup victory was no fluke and India are the best team in this format. The all-conquering Aussies have a lot to learn from them.

How is a monkey chant akin to racial abuse is beyond my comprehension?.
How is a monkey chant akin to racial abuse is beyond my comprehension?. I was in the north stands and people were just having fun..They heckled every australian player and the ones near the boundary ropes bore the brunt..Now it's a well known fact that people who dont take banter lightly get the rough end of the stick..I dont think the taunts and the gestures had any racial overtones..It's just that he took offence to the treatment meted out and that is what's the ultimate aim of the fun loving spectators of the North stand..Why they'll even heckle some Indian players except Sachin, whom every cricket smart fan in Mumbai revers!!!! But it's all in good fun and the crowd generally is very decent and well educated..
Cricket is missing class bowlers?
world of cricket is missing class bowlers like Donald, MG,wasim, Younis etc watching just the ball going for 4 and 6 in the small ground is becoming boring. Previously the ground use to be 80 to 90 mtrs today its 66 to70 mtrs in future it will be 50 mtrs less than gully cricket.
It hard to digest that We Indians make fun of Symonds
I find it hard to digest that We Indians make fun of Symonds while more than 90% of us really look like a monkey with fat wide nostrils and banana lips with ugly short round faces. Really, how dare we made fun of a Mulatto from Australia. He has got a nice fit superior physique to lardy pot-bellied turkey necked Indians with ugly features. Now, see how tolerant they are. They are not making any big issue out of it while a few months ago some racism happened to shilpa and she made it her stairway to fame and cried her eyes out to the world to condemn the show and the participants. Symonds can also use this to gain some world wide fame but...you know what he just doesn't give a damn to some insignificant people from a country where many people actually look nothing less than a black monkey. Now, tell me how would you will when the aussies spectators made fun of us and our cricketers blatantly out in public. We must condemn this racism coz it is highly likely to backfire much much harder on us when we will go to australia in the next series. Trust me as a population of 1 billion , we sit in a boat much uglier then aussies where people generally are quite beautiful and fit. We can't afford to make fun of a forigner's looks when only 1 out of 20 Indians looks beautiful and rest are either too fat or too unattractive or jus plain average.
Symonds faces abuse yet again
The International Cricket Council may have issued the Board of Control for Cricket in India a stern warning with regard to controlling crowd behaviour after Andrew Symonds [Images] faced "abuse" in Vadodara, but it seems nothing has improved. The hard-hitting Aussie batsmen faced a repeat of the monkey chants and boos as he made his way to the crease and back during the seventh ODI in Mumbai on Wednesday. Symonds may have lasted just one delivery, but all through, even while fielding, he had to endure being taunted. Even Australia captain Ricky Ponting made his displeasure clear and said such stuff was totally unnecessary. "Some of the stuff that went on today was totally unnecessary. I hope it doesn't happen in the other cricket venue we are playing because it leaves a bad taste in everybody's mouth. "I am sure there will be a lot of embarrassed people around in this country as well when they know this sort of stuff has happened at one of their cricket venues," Ponting said in Mumbai on Wednesday, after India pulled off a thrilling two-wicket victory in the seventh ODI at the Wankhede stadium. However, this time the tourists were glad that prompt action was taken and fans ejected from the ground. "I believe action has been taken as well. A few members were arrested and taken away from the ground. That sort of stuff, as you all know, and as you all understand, is totally unacceptable any place, any time, not only in sport but in society. To have that sort of stuff happen to him again today for the second time is pretty disappointing considering how much has been made of it in the last few days," he said. Ponting expressed hope that there would not be a repeat of the taunts during the Twenty20 match at the CCI on Saturday. "But it is done now and, hopefully, it doesn't happen at the Twenty20 game [at the CCI on Saturday]. "We got a different reception here than we have in most venues. I went to the ground pretty early and went out to have a look at the wicket and they were all over me straightaway with a few different chants. We do get different kinds of reception all over the world and that is part of cricket I guess," he said. Earlier, in a joint-statement, BCCI president Sharad Pawar and Cricket Australia chairman Creagh O'Connor requested spectators not to engage in racist comments. "There is no place for racism in cricket, either on or off the field. Cricket crowds in all cricket nations are often noisy and boisterous, which is part of the fun of cricket," said the statement.

There's something about India and World Cups in South Africa. The last time India played a World Cup here, it reached the final.
Australia were too good in that 2003 final, but this time there was no denying a hungry Team India, minus big names but overflowing with infectious exuberance. Holding their nerve to win a match that made a rollercoaster ride look like a yawn, the team won the final by 5 runs and wowed the world. Then it was time for a victory lap around the field, tricolour held proudly aloft even as skipper MS Dhoni bared his chest.
It was a fitting finale to a tournament that has been high on thrills, and a fitting triumph for a team that believed in itself when hardly anybody else did. Led by a cool captain who urged them to just enjoy themselves, the players went out and had a blast — and soon, all of India had joined the party.
"I'd like to thank my young team, which has been amazing," said a beaming Dhoni after the match. "No one expected us to win, and now we deserve a big celebration." What made him choose Joginder Sharma for the final over?
"Bhajji wasn't sure, he wasn't getting his yorkers 100% right. I thought I'd give the over to a bowler who wanted to make a mark at the international level. It really didn't matter to me if we didn't win, because we'd given it our best," said Dhoni.
Rival skipper Shoaib Malik thanked the people of Pakistan "and Muslims all over the world" for their support before acknowledging that "we played badly and the Indians bowled superbly."
The BCCI, quick on the ball, announced a bonus of $2 million to the team and Rs 1 crore to Yuvraj Singh for his six sixes in an over. Generous? Not when you consider that the players have restored pride to Indian cricket.
Many have also redeemed themselves. None more so than man of the match Irfan Pathan, bowling again with the swing, verve and canniness that made him such an exciting prospect before he underwent a horrendous slump in form. He's back, and clearly loving it.
"We deserve it, specially after what happened at the (50-overs) World Cup," exulted Irfan. It was a doubly special day for the Pathan family, with Irfan's elder brother, Yusuf Pathan making his debut after Virender Sehwag was ruled out with injury.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2007: Australia reaches into the final
Australia clean bold South Africa in the second semi final of ICC World Cricket Cup 2007. First Australian team (Adam Gilchrist (W), Matthew Hayden, Ricky Ponting (C), Michael Clarke, Andrew Symonds, Michael Hussey, Shane Watson, Brad Hogg, Nathan Bracken, Shaun Tait, Glenn McGrath) bowled out South Africa for only 149 in 43.5 overs. Then scored 153 for three wicket in 31.3 overs and wins the second semi final by 7 wickets and reaches to the final for 4th consecutive time
